Our new USB cable was developed using specialized transmission line techniques and isolation schemes unique to the Audiophile cable industry. We started by asking a simple question: “How can we improve the transmission path between the computer and the Tranquility USB DAC?"

 

As a DAC manufacturer ourselves, we wanted to further optimize the Computer/DAC interface transferring the smallest micro harmonic details from the computer. This required us to re-examine the entire data and voltage line interactivity within a USB cable. So, why is it so hard to transfer harmonic information from the the computer to the USB DAC? To many audiophiles, this all sounds elementarycable1. After all, it’s a digital signal. Just ones and zeros?

 

But, what about the interactivity between the power and the data lines within a USB cable? Many don’t realize that a USB cable contains these two different conductors, with one being a power line, each having interactivity with the other. In the case of USB cables, digital transmission can be fragile, very fragile indeed.

 

The proof of the this fragile nature is the sonic differences we’ve experienced from the many different USB cables in the marketplace. Significant sonic details are obviously lost or smeared by many USB cables. This is what our ears tell us. We wanted our Tranquility DAC to get ALL the musical information from the computer.  Sometimes, if you want it done right, you just have to do it yourself. Hence, the creation of the Essential USB cable.

 

From sonic analysis of other cable designs we found that the best sounding USB have a common denominator. The best sounding have their power and data wires separated to minimize the interactivity. But, what about their shielding techniques? Some utilize braided techniques, while others rely on using two separate cables to reduce interactivity. Another level could be achieved.

 

Our Essential USB Cable takes power/data wire isolation and shielding techniques to unprecedented levels. We use true 100% shielding that is far superior to all braided solutions. EMI and RF interactivity between the data and voltage paths was further reduced.  We refined the wave propagation capabilities and the consistency over the entire length of the cable too. In our opinion, each of these areas needs ultimate optimization to realize perfect data transmission. We found that even the ends of the USB cable needed special non-magnetic dampening materials to control micro-voltage issues.
